I’ve literally taken apart my Golf’s doors a half dozen times (Various electrical issues and part replacements). Mk5 mind you not mk1/2 like your Jetta probably was, but they are shockingly light. Like 1mm thin sheet metal molded into a reinforcing shape, the latch motor is by far the heaviest thing in there.
