I had an old laptop that I hooked in and configured it to boot into a fullscreen browser to our Emby server. Could just as easily have it boot into a browser with shortcuts to your streaming services.
We use one of these mini keyboard/touchpads to control it:
Lately, though, I just picked up a set of wireless HDMI adapters and just plug one of those into the closest laptop and play from there.
Obviously the reader should confirm this for their own jurisdiction but there is no law against either removing or covering up your car’s plate(s) as long as you’re parked on your own private property. Just gotta remember to uncover them before you head out because that is illegal.
Car covers are also an alternative if you’re a renter assuming you aren’t required to have a parking pass or plates visible for parking enforcement.
I’ve had a monochrome Brother laser printer for about 14 years now. Still using the original toner that came with it, though it’s down to about 20% or so. Prints every time I need it which isn’t very often, but when I need to print something, I actually need to print it.

URLS, no, but it can disallow specific domains. So it could work against specific spam domains but not against a bunch of accounts spamming, say, a Github repo, unless you want to block links to all of Github which isn’t ideal.There’s a list of disallowed domains that can be configured in the admin area. Until relatively recently, it would only prevent users of that instance from posting to them, but somewhat recently it now prevents inbound federation of anything linking to those. If something links to a blocked URL (post, comment, user with that in their bio, etc), Lemmy will reject it.I don’t know why more admins don’t look at the spam that gets modded and add the domain to their URL block list other than it being tedious work lol.
They’re trying really hard to make their AI-plagiarized slop “news” site happen. You’ll see posts linking to primestories24 [dot] com but they’re AI slop regurgitating likely legit news articles. Every “reporter” has some generic profile that is most likely the system prompt used for everything they “write”.
If you see a post to that domain, report it as spam. The accounts all look similar to this:

Admins, I’m aware Lemmy is severely lacking in moderation capability, but one thing it does have is domain blocking. That prevents posting to those domains and it now seems to prevent links to those domains from federating in.

I have no idea why, but Github keeps reverting the 1.5.0 release to draft. I’ve had to re-publish it 5 or more times and it just keeps going back to draft.
Finally I just deleted the release and did an entirely new one. Fingers crossed.
If you’re subscribed to release notices, I apologize if you may have been spammed by that. I’m just as annoyed with Github as you are.
The main work is in Codeberg now, but I’m still mirroring to Github and using it for releases as people are subscribed to them there. It’s also got the Actions which perform the builds as well as the container registry. I don’t strictly need the builds, but that would mean I’d have to get rid of the arm64 images as I can’t build those locally (unless I want to do the builds on a Pi).
I also don’t have a replacement container registry, either.
So, if someone has any suggestions for a CI builder and container registry, I’m open to ideas. I self-host most of my infra, but don’t want to deal with adding those onto it.
Update: Seems to be related to the mirroring from Codeberg. Every time I push to the 1.5.1 branch, Codeberg mirrors that over, and Github moves the 1.5.0 release back to draft. What the actual fuck?
Anyway, I’ve disabled the mirroring and will just manually push to Github when it’s time to do a release.

Evaporative coolers don’t really work in high humidity. If you live in an area that’s a dry hot, they work great. Summers in my area, though, are very muggy. Other than ice pack based products, the only passive coolers I’ve found work in humid environments are these sweat bands that have either desiccant beads in them or that stuff that’s in diapers. They pull the sweat away keeping it out of your eyes and give a little evaporative cooling at the same time.

I’d have to look, but I’m going with ignorance of its toxicity like with other things such as radium being used frivolously .
We painted our kids’ rooms with it, painted pencils yellow with it, used it for water lines, put it in gasoline where we then breathed the leaded fumes for decades, and more.
As for finally getting around to replacing lead water lines, well, infrastructure isn’t sexy and no one wants to pay for it.

The toxic material/element lead (Pb). A lot of old water mains and service lines were made out of lead or had lead in them which leaches into the drinking water.

Possibly replacing old, lead pipes. They’re doing a lot of that in my area because of federal funding from a couple years ago.
